Admissions

Admissions

The intention of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine is to prepare students to become physicians who have the capacity and flexibility to select any area in the broad field of medicine. The applicant is selected with this goal in mind. Faculty, medical students and members of the community are normally involved in the review of applicants.

The medical school currently operates three campuses – the Hamilton campus, the Waterloo Regional Campus (WRC), and the Niagara Regional Campus (NRC). At this time, 217 students are admitted to the MD Program (153 in Hamilton, 32 in Waterloo, and 32 in Niagara).

Diversity & Inclusion

McMaster University’s Undergraduate Medical program is committed to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice in all that we do. We strive to:

  • Recruit students, faculty, and staff that reflect the diversity of our society
  • Maintain an environment of equity and respect where everyone can work and learn free of discrimination
  • Assure that our curriculum prepares our graduates to meet the needs of the diverse communities they will serve in their careers

The Undergraduate Medical Education program’s work in this area is supported by McMaster University’s full commitment to principles and programs for equity and diversity as demonstrated by the McMaster University Statement on Building an Inclusive Community with a Shared Purpose (PDF).

Visit our Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion page for more information on the UGME’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion efforts.
